Barcelona’s first-choice goalkeeper, Marc-André ter Stegen, will undergo back surgery next week to address ongoing lower back pain, ruling him out of action for approximately three months. Though he feels physically fit, the 33-year-old acknowledged the pain and said surgery is the “quickest and safest” path to full recovery. This marks another injury setback for Ter Stegen, who missed most of last season due to a knee tendon rupture and underwent a separate back operation in 2023.
With Ter Stegen sidelined, backup Iñaki Peña is expected to step in, while Barcelona recently added Espanyol’s Joan García to bolster the goalkeeper position.
