According to Calvin Watkins from the Dallas Morning News, the Cowboys have allowed Michael Gallup to explore trade options. However, the challenge lies in finding a trade partner, as teams might anticipate the Cowboys eventually releasing him instead.
“The Cowboys have granted WR Michael Gallup permission to look for a trade, a source mentioned. The complication arises from the anticipation by teams that Gallup will be cut,” Watkins reported.
Gallup is in the third year of a five-year contract valued at $57.5 million. Following Amari Cooper’s departure, there were expectations for Gallup to emerge as the secondary receiving option behind CeeDee Lamb. While Lamb has successfully assumed the lead receiver role, Gallup has struggled to make a significant impact, failing to surpass 500 receiving yards in the past two seasons.
The Cowboys aim to enhance their offensive weaponry around quarterback Dak Prescott, especially with the decline in performance from Tony Pollard and the absence of a reliable second-wide receiver. The team’s pursuit of new talent to complement CeeDee Lamb is critical for their future success.
