Ohio State has failed to reply to open records requests for the amended contract terms for 2024. It did announce several promotions and contract renewals in February, but no financial information.
Alford did not receive a contract extension with Ohio State and would have entered the upcoming season in the final year of his deal. Moving to Michigan as the replacement for Mike Hart, who was not kept on Sherrone Moore’s initial team, gave more long-term stability. Ohio State coach Ryan Day refrained from reacting emotionally to Alford’s surprise departure to the program’s biggest opponent one week after spring camp began.
“Well, everybody has to make decisions for them and for their family,” Day went on to say. “So we try to avoid focusing on that. We are aware that we will follow our schedule and play the game against a team that has multiple coaches, and then we will decide what to do next.”
According to Day, Ohio State has finished its “thorough” search for Alford’s replacement, and by the end of this week, a hire could be announced.
