Raiders from Las Vegas…
Antonio Pierce will remain the head coach of the Las Vegas Raiders full-time.
Shortly after the Raiders’ October 30 loss to the Detroit Lions, Pierce assumed the position of Interim Head Coach.
In his nine games in charge, Pierce guided Las Vegas to a 5-4 record, which included three division victories: a season-ending victory over the Denver Broncos, a record-breaking 63-21 rout over the Los Angeles Chargers, and a Christmas Day triumph at Arrowhead Stadium over the reigning Super Bowl champions, the Kansas City Chiefs. Josh Jacobs, the Raiders’ 2022 rushing champion, did not play in any of the three games.
After taking over as the team’s linebackers coach, Pierce gained the respect of his players, who seemed to improve even more under his leadership. Despite missing out on the postseason with a losing record, he also received a lot of appreciation from Raider Nation to the point that, at the conclusion of the season’s final game, the home crowd was shouting “AP.”
After spending nine seasons in the NFL as a linebacker, Pierce was selected to the Pro Bowl following his 2006 New York Giants season. The next season, Pierce and the Giants defeated Tom Brady and the New England Patriots in Super Bowl XLII.
Following his playing career, Pierce led Long Beach Polytechnic High School as its head coach from 2014 until 2017. In 2018, he was appointed recruiting coordinator and linebackers coach at Arizona State. Pierce was appointed co-defensive coordinator and associate head coach in 2020.
In 2021, Pierce was appointed as Arizona’s only defensive coordinator. In 2022, he was brought on as the linebackers coach for the Raiders.
