According to numerous sources, Cincinnati Bengals quarterback Joe Burrow, who inked a five-year, $275 million contract deal, is now the highest-paid athlete in the National Football League.
Burrow will make an average of $55 million annually from the deal, which includes more than $219 million in guaranteed money. This puts him ahead of players like Lamar Jackson and Justin Herbert, who also inked new deals in the summer.

Cincinnati finished 12-4 last year, with Burrow nominated for his first Pro Bowl after throwing for 4,475 yards and a career-high 35 touchdowns.
Early in the training camp this summer, Burrow hurt his calf muscle, keeping him out of action until last week. According to him, he is expected to start Sunday’s Bengals season opener against the Cleveland Browns.
