Kalen DeBoer, the football coach at Alabama, signs an eight-year deal.
The UA System Board of Trustees’ pay committee approved Alabama football coach Kalen DeBoer’s contract on Monday.
DeBoer will get $87 million throughout the course of the eight-year contract, which expires on December 31, 2031. In the first year, he will receive $10 million, and in the last year, he will receive $11.75 million in compensation.
DeBoer’s salary with that contract jumps dramatically; he was paid a total of $4.2 million in Washington this past season. With regard to public school coaches, that was placed No. 44 in the USA TODAY football coach compensation database. But he was expected to get a big increase after guiding the Huskies to the college football playoff. Following the Sugar Bowl, Troy Dannen, the director of athletics at Washington, revealed he made a $9.4 million offer.
But in the end, DeBoer declined that offer in order to take over as head coach at Alabama, succeeding Nick Saban, who announced his retirement on January 10. In 2024, Saban was projected to earn $11.5 million.
