Angel Reese just announced She’s Leaving LSU and Entering WNBA Draft…
Reese made the revelation on Instagram on Wednesday, and a Vogue article also went into detail about her choice.
In a rematch of the national championship game from the previous year, LSU was defeated by Iowa in the NCAA tournament’s Elite Eight on Monday. The game that was broadcast on Monday was the most-viewed women’s collegiate basketball game in history, according to an announcement made by ESPN on Tuesday.
Reese stated, “I’ve done everything I wanted to in college” in the Vogue article. “I’ve been an All-American, won a national title, and won Player of the Year in the Southeastern Conference.” My ultimate objective is to become a professional basketball player and one of the best players of all time. I think I’m prepared.
April 15 is when the WNBA draft will take place. The 6-foot-3-inch forward is predicted to go in the top 10 in mock drafts.
Reese and LSU defeated Caitlin Clark and the Hawkeyes in the championship game, 102-85, to win the program’s first women’s basketball national championship a year ago.
Reese, the Final Four Most Outstanding Player from the previous season, sparked controversy when she famously waved her hand in front of her face at Clark and then pointed to her ring finger as LSU got closer to winning the national championship.
Clark and Iowa exacted revenge on Reese and LSU on Monday night in the Elite Eight, defeating them 94-87 to make it to the Final Four for the second straight year.
Despite twisting her ankle in the second quarter of Reese’s final collegiate game, she finished with 17 points, 20 rebounds, four assists, three blocks, and two steals before fouling out with 1:45 remaining. Reese tied the tournament record with his tenth straight double-double in the NCAA tournament. She averaged 18.6 points and 13.4 rebounds in 33 games this season.
Reese, who will turn 22 in May, attended Maryland for her first two years of college before moving to LSU.
Clark and Reese took a moment in the handshake line following Monday’s game.
“I told her to keep being a great player too, keep elevating the game and go win it,” Reese told reporters. “(Clark) simply told me, ‘Continue to be a great player.'”
9.9 million people watched LSU’s 2023 national championship game, making it the most watched women’s collegiate basketball game in history at the time. These figures were completely destroyed by Monday’s eagerly awaited rematch, which peaked at 16.1 million viewers from 12.3 million.
