The second free agent with Crimson Tide ties to sign with Green Bay on Monday is former New York Giants safety Xavier McKinney, who also signed alongside running back Josh Jacobs.

Xavier McKinney, a former star safety for Alabama, has signed with the Green Bay Packers, according to ESPN’s Adam Schefter.

“Further Packers actions: safety of free agents The Green Bay Packers have signed Xavier McKinney to a four-year, $68 million contract, or an average of $17 million per year, according to Schefter. “Agent David Mulugheta confirmed the deal.”

According to Ian Rapoport of the NFL Network, McKinney will earn $25 million in his debut season with the Green Bay Packers.

The New York Giants, who selected McKinney with the 36th overall pick in the 2020 NFL Draft, have been his home team for all four of his seasons. After his rookie contract expired, New York declined to bring him back.

Since he was given the green dot back in 2021, the 26-year-old has essentially been the cornerstone of the Giants’ defense. Similarly, he tied for the lead in pass breakups (11) and led the team in tackles (116) this past season. He also added two recoveries, a forced fumble, and a team-high three interceptions.

McKinney is the second Crimson Tide free agent to sign with Green Bay on Monday, following running back Josh Jacobs. Nevertheless, they are the Packers’ first two Alabama-born players before the 2019–20 campaign.

McKinney has spent the bulk of his time with the struggling Giants, and he now gets a new start with the league’s youngest squad. This past season, Green Bay advanced to the divisional round of the playoffs. and has a very bright future ahead of it.

McKinney began his college career at Alabama in 2018 and 2019. He totaled 169 tackles in those 28 games, with 11.5 of those being for loss, 15 pass breakups, 6 sacks and caused fumbles, 5 interceptions, and 2 touchdowns.
