Varvaro left Major League Baseball in 2016 to work as a police officer in the New York City area.

Currently in the early phases of his second career, he tragically went away at the age of 36.

In order to work as a police officer for the Port Authority, he willingly left MLB in 2016.

He got engaged in a car accident while traveling to work at the World Trade Center Command in remembrance of September 11, 2001.

Following Varvaro’s passing, St. John’s University coach Mike Hampton expressed that he was “at a loss for words.”Before becoming pro, Staten Island native Varvaro played for St. John’s.

Hampton stated, “He was everything you could want in a person, not just everything you could want in a ball player.” “My thoughts are with his family, friends, coworkers, and other law enforcement personnel.
