The beloved Braves third base coach departs to take a job as manager of the Angels
ATLANTA — It’s a somber day in Braves Country—as MLB insider Jon Heyman reports, cherished third base instructor Ron Washington is heading out of Atlanta to take over as manager of the Los Angeles Angels.
For Braves fans, the man simply known as “Wash” had become an idol, and his coach was someone his players looked up to and respected.
Prior to Atlanta choosing to elevate Brian Snitker and appoint Washington as the third base coach, the 71-year-old Washington was a candidate for the Braves’ vacant managerial post in 2016.
He had a lot of experiences and had enormous success throughout his time in Atlanta. While coaching the Braves in 2021, Washington won a World Series and was selected to coach the MLB All-Star Game in 2022.
Washington is well-known for working with the Braves infielders before every game, but this past season, when the entire Atlanta infield was chosen for the Seattle All-Star Game, may have been his proudest moment.
