Brad Holmes GM of the Detroit Lions, Just Declared That Jared Goff Is No Longer…
The Lions have complete faith in Jared Goff.
Undoubtedly, Jared Goff is going to be the Lions’ starting quarterback going forward.
During his final-season news conference, Detroit general manager Brad Holmes reiterated the team’s belief in the seasoned passer.
“Look, when it comes to Jared, I’ve always believed in Jared,” Holmes said to reporters on Monday. You people have heard me all along. From a performance and leadership perspective, I’m not sure what more needs to be said or done on his part. Regarding the belief, though, I believe I’ve already told you guys this: he wasn’t a full-time starter in ’16 and wasn’t drafted in that year; but, in ’17, he became a full-time starter for the first time and made the playoffs. He was benched against the Falcons that season, but he made it to the Super Bowl in his second season as a full-time starter.
“And what I didn’t get was why, in his second year as a full-time starter, he went to a Super Bowl; that’s when his career was defined.” I always believed him when he came to us as a result.
After completing his third season in the Motor City, Goff produced a standout performance in 2023. In addition to throwing for 30 touchdowns and 4,575 yards, he completed a career-high 67.3 percent of his throws.
Along with those accomplishments, he guided the Lions to 12 wins during the regular season, a division title for the first time in thirty years, and two straight playoff wins for the first time since 1957. The signal-caller undoubtedly won over the people of Detroit and the ardent Lions supporters by accomplishing all of that.
A long-term contract deal for the three-time Pro Bowler is something that Holmes and Detroit’s head office are interested in signing this offseason, according to all reports, including one that came from NFL Network at the end of last month. Goff signed a four-year, $134 million contract with the Los Angeles Rams in September 2019, and he now has one year left on it.
