With his trademark smile and his championship ring from the 2022 World Series on display, David Ross. looked back on his four years in Houston and ahead to the next phase of his incredible baseball career. Despite approaching the end of his more than 50-year Major League career, the 74-year-old still believes he has plenty to offer the game and society.

Baker announced his departure from Minute Maid Park on Thursday. Baker assisted the Astros in winning two World Series, including his first managerial title in 2022, after he announced his retirement in 2020. He said that he would play in the game, but he also said that he was going back to his native California to spend time with his two grandkids.

However, that is the result of success. I wish them luck because they were winning when I arrived and they continued to win while I was here.

With 2,183 regular-season victories, the seventh-highest total in history, Baker ends his 26-year tenure as one of the most successful managers in history. He led teams to pennants in both leagues (the National League’s Giants in 2002 and the American League’s Astros in 2021–2022) and division titles with five separate organizations.

Baker remarked, “Hopefully it’s in better shape now than when I came here; they were in beautiful shape then.” I am grateful to Jim Crane for believing in me.
