Lions Head Coach Dan Campbell Issues Firm Remark Regarding Trade for Justin Fields

With regard to Fields and his most recent professional move, the head coach of the Detroit Lions is now feeling relieved.

This week, Campbell discussed the transaction that sent Fields to the Pittsburgh Steelers from the NFC North, where he is anticipated to provide backup for seasoned player Russell Wilson. Campbell expressed his happiness at having Fields off their schedule following the three seasons in which they were forced to play the highly skilled quarterback.

According to SB Nation reporter Jeremy Reisman, Detroit Lions coach Dan Campbell told reporters on March 26 that it was “good to have Fields out of the division.”

Bears Leave Fields and Move On

Many predicted Fields would be dealt this summer because the Bears had the No. 1 overall pick in next month’s NFL Draft and USC quarterback Caleb Williams is available. But as NFL.com’s Kevin Patra pointed out, the Bears were surprised by the poor return they ended up receiving for Fields.

“A long cry from what most expected Chicago to recoup in moving its previous first-round pick, the Bears dealt Fields to Pittsburgh in exchange for a conditional 2025 sixth-round pick,” Patra wrote. But with few clear landing spots available, the Bears weren’t really in a position to do anything other than hang onto Fields until the draft and maybe beyond.

Despite having a career record of just 2-3 versus the Lions in Chicago, Fields frequently caused issues for Detroit’s defense, particularly when he was on the ground. In the last four games versus the Lions, Fields has rushed for 441 yards overall and three touchdowns, surpassing the 100-yard mark three times.

Fields Was Described as “Dangerous” by Dan Campbell

As Tyler Conway of Bleacher Report pointed out, Campbell has consistently supported Fields. In December, Campbell told reporters that the Bears quarterback is “dangerous” and that Detroit’s defense had trouble stopping him.

Reporters were told by Campbell, “Listen, he’s deadly.” He’s one of these special, dangerous players, and from last year to this one, he’s done a really good job of, in my opinion, of keeping his eyes down the field much more than he did in the past. That’s dangerous because, even in Minnesota, he had two or three receivers wide open after he kind of ran, found a way through, broke contain, and then he got an explosive pass off of it.

Bears general manager Ryan Poles said that the team found it challenging to move on from Fields, particularly in light of his personal relationship with the quarterback.

Poles went to coach Matt Eberflus’s residence to gather Justin’s information about the move over the phone.

According to Patrick Finley of the Chicago Sun-Times, Poles stated, “Justin, certainly one of the harder things I’ve had to do.” “I often touch on the empathy aspect, saying things like, ‘It was difficult to have that conversation with my own son.'” In his room, his jersey is up. Thus, it somewhat contextualizes the difficulty of certain maneuvers.
