Derek Watt, a former wide receiver for the Steelers and Chargers, announced his NFL retirement.
After seven seasons as a professional, veteran fullback Derek Watt announced on social media on Tuesday that he is retiring from the NFL. With immense pride, I formally declare my retirement and the conclusion of my professional journey. Watt said in a statement, “A career that ended up being about so much more than just the game that I love.”
Over the past seven years, I’ve had the privilege of participating in 110 career games, two outstanding organizations, and forming enduring friendships and memories. It’s been an incredible experience.
Watt spent four seasons with the Bolts before joining his younger brother T.J. for three seasons from 2020 to 2022 with the Pittsburgh Steelers.
12 March 2024 Watt’s 2022 season will be his final in the NFL because he did not play in the previous one. T.J. Watt is the lone Watt brother who is still playing in the NFL after J.J. left the team last year, making him the second Watt to retire. Derek Watt thanked many individuals in his message, including both of his brothers, for their assistance in his career.
This journey together has been absolutely wonderful, from playing in the backyard to sharing a field in the NFL,” Watt added.
It’s been so great to watch all of our efforts and hard work come off. You two encouraged me to be the best version of myself.” After playing in 110 NFL games, Watt finished his career with 47 touches for 249 yards from scrimmage, three touchdowns overall, and numerous blocks.
