Fernando Alonso just announced his departure due to…
Alonso’s Aston Martin team is making every effort to maintain P4 in the constructors’ championship, even though McLaren has much superior form and momentum.
After a highly successful run of upgrades for the MCL60, McLaren has closed the gap with Aston Martin in the standings to 49 points, potentially placing them as the second-fastest team.
Oscar Piastri and Lando Norris from McLaren, who were demoted down the order for violating the Q3 track constraints, will not be able to compete with Alonso when he prepares to start from P4. But in his opinion, Aston Martin is now losing the war.
He says that rather than just giving them credit, Aston Martin must now “understand” that McLaren will remove its P4.
“I mean, they have the momentum now; they’re getting a lot of points, both cars, and they are very powerful,” Alonso said to reporters during qualifying.
“We have to recognize that they will eventually catch up to us and give them credit for it. But we’re not going to stop setting the standard and fighting for the civil rights of all races.
Alonso was nevertheless happy with his qualifying effort in Qatar, which suggested a kind of comeback based on his highest grid position since the Canadian Grand Prix.
incredibly happy. We haven’t been as competitive in the top six as we were in the third row of the grid, in my opinion, in a few races,” he said.
“I’m pretty happy with the performance today; the car appeared speedy in qualifying, even with the difficult conditions in Formula One.”
“It’s a good start, but it’s just the beginning; the main race and the sprint are long races with lots of racing circuits.”
Alonso’s teammate Lance Stroll had a difficult start to the race weekend with his fourth consecutive elimination in the first round. A disagreement with his performance coach and osteopathic physician, Henry Howe, ensued after this.
