Alonso’s Aston Martin team is making every effort to maintain P4 in the constructors’ championship, even though McLaren has much superior form and momentum.

After a highly successful run of upgrades for the MCL60, McLaren has closed the gap with Aston Martin in the standings to 49 points, potentially placing them as the second-fastest team.

Oscar Piastri and Lando Norris from McLaren, who were demoted down the order for violating the Q3 track constraints, will not be able to compete with Alonso when he prepares to start from P4. But in his opinion, Aston Martin is now losing the war.

He says that rather than just giving them credit, Aston Martin must now “understand” that McLaren will remove its P4.
