After it was established that Fernando Alonso recently signed his articles of resignation,.
Despite the fact that McLaren has considerably better form and momentum, Alonso’s Aston Martin squad is doing everything in its power to hold onto P4 in the constructors’ championship.
Following a very successful series of improvements for the MCL60, McLaren has trimmed their standings deficit to Aston Martin to 49 points, making them maybe the second-fastest team.
As he gets ready to start from P4, Alonso will have the edge over McLaren’s Oscar Piastri and Lando Norris, who were demoted down the order for breaking the Q3 track limitations. However, he feels that Aston Martin is currently losing the battle.
He states that Aston Martin now has to “understand” that McLaren will take away their P4 and just give them props for it.
After qualifying, Alonso told reporters, “I mean, they have the momentum now; they’re scoring a lot of points, both cars, and they are very powerful.”
“They will eventually catch up to us; we have to accept that and give them credit for it. However, we continue to lead the way and will keep fighting for the rights of all races.
Even so, Alonso was pleased with his qualifying performance in Qatar, indicating a resurgence of sorts as evidenced by his greatest grid position since the Canadian Grand Prix.
Extremely joyful. I believe there have been a few races where we have not been as competitive in the top six as we were in the third row of the grid,” he stated.
“I’m really pleased with the performance today; despite the challenging conditions in Formula One, the vehicle seemed quick in qualifying.
“I think it’s a positive start, but it’s only the first step; the weekend is lengthy with a lot of racing laps within the sprint and the main race.”
Lance Stroll, Alonso’s teammate, had a rough start to the race weekend after being eliminated in the first round for the fourth time in a row. This was followed by a confrontation with Henry Howe, his performance coach and osteopathic physician.
