Ohio State football should consider launching the transfer portal with another quarterback.
Fans of Ohio State football saw nothing positive in the Cotton Bowl. The Buckeyes only managed three points, demonstrating what a complete failure the offence was. Mostly due to the quarterback performance, their offence was not as good this season as it had been under Ryan Day in prior seasons.
Now that Kyle McCord has moved on to Syracuse, the Buckeyes need a new starting quarterback. In the Cotton Bowl, neither Devin Brown nor Lincoln Kienholz gave the impression that they were prepared for such a role. The Buckeyes are left with few alternatives as a result.
They should consider the option that entered the transfer site yesterday night. That player is Liberty’s Kaidon Salter. As you may remember, Liberty faced Oregon in the Fiesta Bowl last week after being undefeated throughout the regular season. Even though he’s not very big, he clearly has talent.
Salter is undersized for a quarterback at only 6’1″ and 195 pounds. Nevertheless, this past season, he passed for 2,876 yards and 32 touchdowns. Together with that, he rushed for 1,089 yards and 12 touchdowns. His ability to rush the ball would give Ohio State a dangerous aspect they haven’t had since Justin Fields.
Indeed, Liberty had the most forgiving schedule in the nation this season. Salter didn’t flip the ball, though. This past year, he only had six interceptions and four fumble losses. When you consider all of the favourable metrics he was able to obtain, that is really good.
Salter’s inexperience in major games is one of the main issues with adding him. In his career, he has only faced three Power 5 opponents. He has only passed for 501 yards, three touchdowns, and three interceptions in his three games. Those are hardly impressive figures.
