Bill Belichick says he wants to return
Tom Pelissero of the NFL Network said that Belichick will be a well-liked contender for head coach in 2019.
According to Peliissero (via Christian Arnold of the New York Post), “Belichick does want to continue to coach and the expectation right now within the league is that Belichick will coach someplace in 2025.” “In fact, I’ve been informed that several owners contacted Belichick regarding the hiring cycle for next year, not long after the Falcons decided to select Raheem Morris over Belichick a few weeks ago.”
All eight head coach positions this year went to someone other than Bill Belichick, who is likely the best coach in NFL history. He was only known to have conducted interviews with the Falcons. Falcons owner Arthur Blank refuted rumors that Belichick was attempting to take total control of the franchise, similar to what he did with the Patriots.
“I want to be quite clear about it; feel free to use 1,000, 2,000, or 100,000 percent, as much as you like. During our conversation, Bill Belichick never requested total authority over the staff, the facility, or anything else like that, Blank recalled at the time.
Nevertheless, it’s thought that Belichick still has the motivation to coach. Don Shula’s record is 15 wins away from being broken by the 71-year-old, and Pelissero stated that he is “driven” to pull off the historic achievement.
After leading the team to its lowest record in 24 years with a 4-13 record in 2023, Belichick’s time in New England came to an abrupt end. It wouldn’t be shocking to see the six-time Super Bowl champion coaching in 2025 because he undoubtedly doesn’t want to conclude his illustrious career on such a negative note.
