New Saints quarterback Jake Haener was suspended for six games for using performance-enhancing drugs.
Jake Haener, a rookie quarterback for the New Orleans Saints, has been suspended for the first six games of the 2023 NFL season for using performance-enhancing drugs in violation of the league policy.
On Wednesday, the league made the ban public. What Haener was suspended for was not specified.
Haener posted a statement on Instagram, saying, “I recently learned that I tested positive for a chemical forbidden by the NFL earlier this summer.” Since the prohibited element is absent from all of my vitamins and prescription drugs, I’m still unsure of how the material entered my body.
“I must accept complete responsibility for the failed test, even though I would never intentionally cheat at the game I love. I sincerely regret any inconvenience this suspension may have caused to the Saints organization, my friends, and my family,” Haener continued.

This season, Haener and Taysom Hill were competing to be the Saints’ third-string quarterbackss. Haener was designated as the fourth string, and Hill was changed from tight end to quarterback before the suspension, supporting Jameis Winston on the sidelines.
suspensions of quarterback PED use
It is uncommon for quarterbacks to receive suspensions for breaking the NFL’s performance-enhancing drug rules; Mark Sanchez was the last quarterback to do so in 2018.
Haener is qualified to rejoin the Saints for their Week 7 matchup with the Jacksonville Jaguars on October 16.
“I’m sad to be spending the next few weeks apart from the team, but I’ll develop and learn from it. As soon as possible, I want to be back on the team,” Haener stated.
