DETROIT (WILX) – Heading into the 2017 season, quarterback Jared Goff of Detroit was about to reach the final year of his current contract with the organization. Then, on Monday afternoon, ESPN’s Adam Schefter revealed that Goff had inked a record-breaking $212 million, four-year deal extension with the Lions.
With a guaranteed salary of $170 million, Goff will be the most paid Lion in franchise history. He completed the season with 4,575 yards and 30 touchdowns passing, and he also helped lead the Lions to the NFC Championship game.
Three players, including Goff, have already received contract extensions for $444 million from the Lions this offseason. Penei Sewell received $4 years and $112 million, while Amon-Ra St. Brown received $4 years and $120.01 million.
