The Niners’ general manager, John Lynch, recently announced that head coach Kyle Shanahan is no longer…
Santa Clara: On Friday afternoon, the 49ers announced that coach Kyle Shanahan and general manager John Lynch had received multiyear contract extensions.
The 49ers locker room knew about the news dump; there was no doubt about that.
Trent Williams, a left tackle for the 49ers, told NBC Sports Bay Area that “it means we’re in excellent hands for as long as the agreement is.” “The two have a terrific relationship together. Who more deserves an extension than those two? It would be hard to find someone.
“It merely provides comfort knowing that the individuals you’re giving your all for won’t have new faces the next year.”
Lynch’s contract is currently signed through at least 2026, while Shanahan’s is scheduled to expire in 2027.
When CEO Jed York hired Shanahan and Lynch in 2017, the 49ers had a disorganized football department and some of the worst personnel in the NFL.
The 49ers presently have one of the greatest rosters in the entire NFL, with numerous of its key players having been taken in the middle to late rounds of their seven total drafts.
San Francisco’s 49ERS
A new league record was made when six of the eight 49ers players included in the latest NFL Top 100 were also selected in the most recent draft.
Every squad struggles after making an acquisition. But when they have missed, the 49ers have changed to find someone else—possibly even an upgrade—in an effort to keep the team from suffering a loss.
Williams claims that although their formula is simple, it is not commonly applied in the NFL.
“Kyle and John are such a wonderful team because they don’t care where you were drafted or how much you were paid,” Williams said. “When you came and entered this locker room, it didn’t matter to them. If you can help this squad win, then you’ll be on the field.
“As a player, you have the utmost respect for that because politics is a real factor in this game.”
It did not work out when the 49ers moved up to choose Trey Lance with the third overall choice in the 2021 NFL Draft. That proved to be beneficial as their long-term quarterback, Brock Purdy, was chosen as their last pick a year later.
“It just shows that football is more than just a 40-yard dash,” wide receiver Jauan Jennings, a seventh-round pick in 2020, said. There is a lot more going on between the ears than most people realize. Those people really seem to have a knack for spotting those players.
Not only is Shanahan one of the game’s greatest offensive minds, but he has also made terrific assistant selections.
Robert Saleh, Mike McDaniel, and DeMeco Ryans were elevated from coordinator to head coach positions under Shanahan.
It took some time for York and the 49ers to identify a long-term coach-general manager tandem. York made some of the better choices when he hired Lynch and Shanahan, after assuming control of the team’s day-to-day operations.
York has now twice granted extensions to both men. The first contracts were handed out after the 49ers advanced to the Super Bowl in just their third season together.
“It gives you that confidence that you’re going to have the same chiefs every year,” Williams said in reference to the players. And we’ll be back the next year, carrying the same voice and message.
