John Schneider will rejoin the Blue Jays as manager in 2024…
Manager John Schneider will lead the team again in 2024, General Manager Ross Atkins revealed on Saturday. The choice was made following back-to-back sweeps in the MLB postseason’s first round and contentious managerial choices in the playoffs the previous two years.
After the Twins swept the Blue Jays in the Wild Card stage, Schneider managed the team to back-to-back postseason appearances and a.572 win percentage, but there were still doubts about whether he would be back in 2024. Schneider found himself in the center of attention following the controversy over José Berríos’ early removal from the game during Toronto’s Game 2 loss in Minnesota.
Atkins stated on Saturday that while the manager ultimately made the decision on whether and when to employ the tactic, Schneider was not the only one who had the idea to deploy Kikuchi at some point during the game to set up Minnesota’s lefty bats for late-game success.Atkins stated, “John Schneider decided to use that tactic.”
Regarding the remaining members of the 2024 Blue Jays roster, the situation is not quite as clear. Luis Rivera, the longtime third base coach, has already declared his retirement, and the general manager stated on Saturday that Atkins and Schneider have “just started to work through” any more possible staff changes.
Atkins stated, “John and I talked about it for a while yesterday.” “And when we next get together, I’ll have more for you.”
