Breaking News: A Cincinnati Bengals defensive lineman who was 27 years old, passed away from cancer just now. “A fantastic teammate”
Since Hendrickson is supposedly “hopeful” to work out a long-term contract with the Bengals, it would be ideal for everybody if a deal could be worked out to keep him in Cincinnati. The previous summer, Hendrickson signed a one-year contract extension worth $21 million, including $8 million guaranteed, which locked him in for the 2025 season.
Despite signing a four-year contract worth $60 million less than with the Bengals in 2021, the 29-year-old believes he should be paid like one of the best defensive ends in the league and is reportedly looking for “more long-term stability” in his next deal. He may be right, given his performance during his time in Cincinnati.
GIVEMESPORT Key Stat: Since his breakthrough in 2020, Trey Hendrickson has been one of the most consistent edge rushers in the NFL. He is one of just five players to register eight or more sacks in each of the previous four seasons. Of those who have accumulated more sacks throughout that period, only Myles Garrett and T.J. Watt have more than him with 53.
Hendrickson had a big year in 2020, his last season with the New Orleans Saints, earning 13.5 sacks, more than doubling his career total at that point. But since joining the Bengals, Hendrickson has proven that his 2020 campaign was not an anomaly brought on by COVID-19.
In his first season in Cincinnati, Hendrickson nearly surpassed his total from the previous year with 14 sacks. A new career high was reached. He saw some regression in 2022 with just eight sacks, but he more than made up for it in 2023. Hendrickson surpassed T.J. Watt’s previous career high of 17.5 sacks to tie for second place in the league.
