Johnson had to be sold by Nottingham Forest at the end of the previous season in order to balance the books. Ultimately, they earned a four-point deduction because they cashed in too late to comply with Premier League Profit and Sustainability Rules.
Ross Wilson, the chief football officer at Forest, reportedly spoke with several teams to explore moving Johnson during the summer transfer window, according to The Athletic. United, Crystal Palace, Aston Villa, Brentford, and Manchester City all decided not to submit an offer.
Although it is believed that Atletico Madrid made a bid to the Tricky Trees, Spurs placed the winning bid of £47.5 million and Johnson became an important part of Ange Postecoglou’s team right away.
This season, the Welsh international has assisted on six goals and four goals in the Premier League. Alejandro Garnacho has eight goal contributions, compared to nine from Marcus Rashford and Rasmus Hojlund.
Sadly for the three United players, they have all combined for worse totals despite playing more minutes than Johnson this season. The Spurs forward is still young enough to develop and get better at age 22.
