Oklahoma City Thunder head coach Mark Daigneault just announced his resignation…..
Billy Donovan leaves the Oklahoma City Thunder, and Mark Daigneault takes over as head coach. “Mark is a values-based leader, a continuous learner, and someone that will help us continue the repositioning of our organization on and off the court,” said Thunder general manager Sam Presti.
General manager Sam Presti has announced that assistant Mark Daigneault has been promoted to become the fourth head coach in the history of the Oklahoma City Thunder.
Daigneault, 35, takes over for Billy Donovan, who announced his resignation in September despite finishing third in the NBA Coach of the Year competition this year. Donovan, 55, has finished the five-year contract he signed in April 2015 with the Thunder.
Before leaving to take over as head coach of Oklahoma City’s G-League franchise, the Oklahoma City Blue, Daigneault worked as Donovan’s assistant for four years while he was the head coach of the Florida Gators. The next season, Donovan left Gainesville to become the Thunder’s head coach.
“Mark’s appointment as head coach of the Oklahoma City Thunder is greatly anticipated,” stated Presti, who first brought Daigneault on board to lead the Blue in 2014.
Since his arrival in 2014, he has demonstrated selflessness and effectiveness as a leader within our organization. Mark is a leader who upholds ideals, is a lifelong learner, and will assist us in continuing to reposition our company both on and off the court.”
