The most Dennis Allen-like approach possible was how the Saints took Jameis Winston’s spot.
Nathan Peterman, another contentious quarterback, will take Jameis Winston’s spot on the New Orleans Saints roster.
Nick Underhill claims that quarterback Nathan Peterman will be signed by the New Orleans Saints.Derek Carr, the starting quarterback, and quarterbacks coach Andrew Janocko are both someone Peterman is acquainted with. He played with Janocko on the Chicago Bears for the previous two seasons. Prior to that, he was a backup quarterback for Carr with the Las Vegas Raiders from 2018 to 2021.
For the No. 2 spot behind quarterback Derek Carr, Peterman will face competition from quarterback Jake Haener. In order to move up and choose Haener in the previous year’s NFL Draft, New Orleans gave up their fourth-round pick in the 2024 NFL Draft. It would be disappointing if he couldn’t unseat Peterman for the backup position. Peterman was selected by the Buffalo Bills in the fifth round of the 2017 NFL Draft. In his six years in the league, he has started just five games, attempted 160 passes, and has a 1-4 record in his five career starts. He has thrown four touchdowns and 13 interceptions while being sacked twelve times. While many players have comparable statistical outputs and career trajectories to Peterman, most of them go unnoticed, one game in particular has made him notorious among NFL fans. In 2017, the fifth-round rookie was thrown into a game against the New Orleans Saints
Tyrod Taylor sustained a wound. Peterman completed seven of 10 throws for 79 yards and one score at the end of the game. Since the Bills were a poorly managed club at the time, they made the decision to start Peterman in the next game against the Los Angeles Chargers.
The game was a complete flop. Peterman gained 66 yards while completing six of his 14 throws. Before Taylor was substituted in for him by the coaching staff, he had thrown five interceptions in the first half. Rather than being known for Peterman, who never should have been placed in the problematic scenario in the first place, the game should be remembered as a disgrace for the coaching staff. Since then, he has grown into a trustworthy backup who manages planning appropriately.Even if he might not start, he might be the best choice to manage the crucial responsibilities of a backup quarterback.
