New Orleans Saints key player confirms dead at 27 after cancer battle: ‘A great teammate’
The NFL tight end, 25, who was diagnosed with Hodgkin’s cancer around two months ago, has signed with the New Orleans Saints, the team announced on Wednesday.
The team from Louisiana welcomed the player to the organization with a number of tweets and included pictures of him formally signing a new deal.
The terms of the deal were not disclosed by the New Orleans Saints, but ESPN revealed that Moreau’s contract is for $12 million over three years, with $3 million in incentives and $8 million guaranteed.
Moreau, who has been undergoing cancer treatment, has experienced encouraging results, according to agent Joe Linta, who spoke with ESPN. He plans to play this coming season. According to the publication, Moreau has permission to practice on the football field again the following week.
During a routine NFL physical, free agent Foster Moreau discovers he has cancer and will be “stepping away.”
In March, Moreau took to Twitter to announce his retirement from football following the discovery of his illness by medical professionals during an NFL physical.
He said in a tweet that he is now facing “a new opponent” in his life: “cancer.” “During a routine physical conducted by the Saints’ medical team down in New Orleans, I’ve come to learn that I have Hodgkin’s lymphoma and will be stepping away from football,” he said.
The sportsman expressed gratitude for the support from “people who have stood firm with” him. “There hasn’t been a single step I’ve taken without hundreds of people lighting the path before me, and I will continue to seek their guidance,” he stated.
According to Moreau, “That being said, I’ll go kick this thing’s ass and get back to doing what I love! AMDG!”
