Royce Lewis Third Baseman for the Minnesota Twins Just Announced his Departure
According to Sean Casey, a healthy Royce Lewis might be considered for MVP.
Royce Lewis is now officially a two-time dark horse candidate for the American League MVP in 2024 after MLB Network’s Sean Casey elevated him to a pedestal as teams reported for spring training on Wednesday. He was previously only a one-time contender.
When discussing AL MVP contenders, Casey said, “I’m going off the board, Royce Lewis.” “For me, Royce Lewis. He played in 58 games the previous season, hitting over.300 with maybe 15 bombs and 52 RBIs. Actually, this would not be that unlikely if the individual can maintain his health.”
FanDuel Sportsbook says Lewis has a 5,000-to-1 chance of winning the prize. Stated otherwise, the payout for a winning wager would be five times the initial stake.
The fact that only 17 players have greater MVP odds than Lewis is a little surprising.
Lewis has higher odds than Carlos Correa, his teammate, who is +8000. Pablo Lopez, the starting pitcher for the Twins, is the only other player available on FanDuel at +20000.
In little action the previous season, Lewis was dominant. Based on his 70 career games, the former No. 1 overall choice has incredible 162-game averages of.307/.364/.549 (.913 OPS) with 39 home runs, 132 RBIs, and 95 runs.
Royce Lewis has a 162-game average WAR (his worth above a replacement player) of 6.5. Casey added, “If this guy can get 140 games and stay healthy you might see some big statistics and he might be in the conversation.”
