Although many saw Russell Wilson’s two-week suspension as a sign of impending divorce, Denver Broncos head coach Sean Payton stated on Tuesday that Wilson’s future is still up in the air and that no decision has been made.

“Look, I think it’s too early at all because there are so many factors that go into a choice relating to the quarterback, which is obviously critical, when we get back and we begin this process of looking at our roster, where we select,” Payton stated. “Hey, I don’t believe it’s going to be a long, drawn-out process, but it hasn’t been decided relative to what our goals are,” I informed Russ during our 30-minute conversation yesterday. Wilson was benched by the Broncos for the final two weeks, in part to prevent any financial ramifications that would have resulted from a serious injury to the quarterback. In March of 2025, Wilson’s $37 million injury guarantee becomes completely guaranteed. The Broncos will let Wilson go in the upcoming months if they wish to avoid that assurance.
