Sheila Ford Hamp will take over as the primary owner and chairman of the Detroit Lions, the organization announced on Tuesday. Sheila Ford Hamp is the daughter of Martha Firestone Ford. Discover the new proprietor below.

Hamp was the second of Martha and the late William Clay Ford’s four children, born in 1951. For the Lions, each of Hamp’s siblings is a vice chairman. For the previous six years, Hamp held the same position. Her spouse, Steve, resides in Ann Arbor.

As previously indicated, Hamp has served as vice chairman since 2014. She is a member of the Detroit Lions Charities Board as well as the NFL’s Super Bowl and Major Events Committee. She co-chairs the board of the Chelsea-based Purple Rose Theatre Company with her husband. She also sits on several boards related to family businesses, including the Edsel and Eleanor Ford House, the Ford Motor Company Fund, and Henry Ford (as vice chairman).

Hamp graduated from Yale in 1973 as a member of the first female class. She continued on to Boston University to obtain a master’s degree in early childhood education and teaching.

At Yale, Hamp was a varsity tennis player. According to her Lions background, she was raised in Michigan, competed at the national level as a junior, and won the Michigan state title at the age of 17.
