Sixers head coach declares his resignation
The executive staff promptly fired head coach Doc Rivers after the Philadelphia 76ers’ Game 7 Eastern Conference Semifinals loss to the Boston Celtics. It was not shocking that the organisation was prepared to let Doc go, even if his dismissal was not justified only on the basis of the Sixers’ disastrous series performance. As a result, Philly is now one of the five NBA clubs seeking a new head coach.
The Philadelphia 76ers have found their new head coach.
The Toronto Raptors, under Nurse’s direction, won their first NBA championship in team history in 2019. The nurse was most recently their head coach. The Raptors have been stuck in the centre of the Eastern Conference since Kawhi Leonard left after winning a championship. They had a 41-41 record that placed them ninth in the East this past season, and they were defeated by the Chicago Bulls in the opening round of the Play-In Tournament.
The Raptors fired Nurse at the end of the current season in a move that appeared more reciprocal than official. As Nurse’s term came to a close, rumours about Raptors President Masai Ujiri and players turning against him surfaced, and it appeared like Nurse’s time in Toronto was running out.
Is Nurse able to win an NBA championship with the Philadelphia 76ers?
Now, the issue is whether Nurse can bring the City of Brotherly Love’s 40-year championship drought to an end. Leading scorer Joel Embiid’s team, which has the ability to win the conference, is his roster. Assuming James Harden and Embiid return, Nurse’s background with All-Star-caliber players like Kyle Lowry and Kawhi Leonard could benefit him in Philadelphia. Additionally, championship victories are respected by more seasoned players.
In addition, Nurse is recognised for being an excellent coach for player development who excels in working with young players; in Toronto, this includes Chris Boucher, OG Annunoby, and Scottie Barnes. Tyrese Maxey has the potential to be a superstar, and that skill set is essential to his development. It remains to be seen if Nurse will be the long-awaited leader to finish the process. He is probably the Sixers’ greatest coaching prospect right now, so today feels like a victory!
