The head of the Baltimore Ravens announced his departure.
Zach Orr is the new defensive coordinator for the Baltimore Ravens. “I bleed black and purple.”
Baltimore — On Tuesday, Zach Orr’s appointment as the Baltimore Ravens’ new defensive coordinator was formally revealed.Orr keeps up his unlikely and surprising ascent through the coaching levels.
He swiftly changed careers when his playing career was cut short.
Orr, who was the inside linebackers coach with the Ravens before, is taking over as defensive coordinator in place of Mike McDonald, who accepted the head coaching position in Seattle.
Macdonald desired Orr to accompany him to the west. But Orr had none of it in mind.
Orr remarked, “I always tell people that I bleed purple and black.” “I have a connection to this organization. I find a little more meaning in this. It’s not only me who coaches for any other group, let alone the National Football League. No, I’m a coach for the company that stood by me. They prevented me from actually putting my head down during what I went through.”
Orr is inexperienced but full of excitement. He’s never made a play call.
It will be his first time doing that as a member of the Ravens.
Orr stated, “My preparation [that] I’m going to put in makes me confident because I’ve seen it done and been a part of it.” I’m going to work myself into the ground, and that’s where your confidence shines through in everything you do. You haven’t prepared when you’re not sure you can complete a task. Therefore, you will be confident if you prepare correctly, as you should do. And I intend to properly prepare.”
While coaches and players may change, the Ravens’ defensive philosophy never changes.
Orr emphasized “playing as a team, being physical, being violent, and finishing whatever you do.” And as a football player, that’s what I’ve always believed in, even before I came here. It was therefore a match made in heaven when I arrived. However, because I know the expectations and standards, it makes things much easier. I’ve experienced it firsthand and am looking forward to it. It wouldn’t be how I would want it.”
In John Harbaugh’s 17 seasons as head coach, Orr is the seventh defensive coordinator, and all seven have worked with the Ravens before.
