Tua Tagovailoa Miami Dolphins QB, Just Announced His Departure
He responded to criticism that Tyreek Hill and the rest of his supporting cast are what make him successful during a press conference on Wednesday by telling reporters he doesn’t pay attention to the narratives:
“Please keep pushing it toward Tyreek; everyone wants to make this about me and Tyreek. Talk about Tyreek. I am aware that my platform and the quarterback I am in this league divide people. I don’t give a damn whether I’m the greatest or the worst. I don’t pay attention to it. Ultimately, it doesn’t really matter to me. I do, however, save receipts if [Dolphins communications] does share it with me. Everybody has their own method for doing things, but all the stories about it are true, for sure. You’re right—I’m only excellent with Tyreek. I’m just very good at that one moment.
You’re correct—I’m only effective when Jaylen Waddle is present. It doesn’t really concern me. Indeed, my abilities are limited by Raheem Mostert’s permission. That is what the story must be. Additionally, as a team, we are able to advance to our desired destinations and win games. If that’s what you want, I am the worst football player ever. It doesn’t concern me. Actually, I don’t. So, take snippets from what I just mentioned and use them for whatever your program requires. Execute it. Fulfill your obligations. I just came here to do my job, which is to support our players in winning games.”
Hill did not play in Miami’s victory against the New York Jets on Sunday due to an ankle issue that restricted him during the team’s Week 14 defeat to the Tennessee Titans.
In the loss against Tennessee, Tagovailoa completed 240 yards of passing with zero touchdowns and zero interceptions. Against the Jets, he completed 224 yards of passing with one touchdown and zero interceptions. In the crucial stages of the Dolphins’ defeat to the Titans, they labored and finished with just 290 total yards versus New York.
Miami, which is still ranked No. 2 in the AFC at 10-4, will have a chance to overtake the Baltimore Ravens, who are ranked first, as the two teams square off in Week 17.
But in the last four games, Tagovailoa has only completed four touchdown passes against two interceptions. In all that time, he has also failed to cross the 300-yard barrier once.
However, in his words, the Dolphins’ victory is the only thing that counts. With a strong roster that surrounds Tagovailoa, including Hill, Mostert, and Waddle, they have been doing just that quite a bit.
Even a quarterback with an outstanding supporting cast might benefit from one-on-one focus. As a matter of fact, the NFL just declared that Brock Purdy of the San Francisco 49ers and quarterback Tagovailoa are the top two vote-getters for the Pro Bowl Games.
Notwithstanding the fact that Purdy has Christian McCaffrey, Deebo Samuel, George Kittle, and Brandon Aiyuk in his supporting cast, Purdy is also considered an MVP contender.
All the way to the Super Bowl, he and Tagovailoa would undoubtedly be more than happy to rely on those supporting groups.
