The Yankees could spend $100 million to get back together with a guy they traded away.

The New York Yankees are apparently trying to acquire starting pitcher Jordan Montgomery back after trading him away in the midst of the 2022 season, but doing so will probably cost them far more than they got in exchange.
According to the most recent free agency rumours, Montgomery is linked to his previous team, the Yankees, who aim to strengthen their rotation this summer and make a run at the playoffs in 2024.
Montgomery played for the Yankees before being dealt to the Cardinals in 2022, so the team may consider him. MLB.com said. This offseason, New York has internally pondered getting back together with Montgomery.
However, a reunion of this kind would almost certainly need an offer of a large, long-term contract; ESPN’s Kiley McDaniel projects that Montgomery will demand a deal in excess of $100 million.
That may be a bitter pill to swallow, particularly given that the Yankees received nothing in exchange for moving Montgomery in the first place.
