A former pitcher for the Philadelphia Phillies agrees to work with the Angels.
Following an agreement to sign a former Philadelphia Phillies pitcher, the Los Angeles Angels have added another reliever to their roster this offseason.
The Philadelphia Phillies still have a lot of options when it comes to adding final roster members before the 2024 season.
The Phillies have been keeping a close eye on the starting pitcher market, in addition to their bullpen, which appears to have obvious needs. They were able to add a former Atlanta Braves first-round talent, but nothing has come of it thus far.
A number of their previous players were also dispersed throughout the market in search of a new squad.
A reunion involving Hector Neris or Matt Moore was suggested by some, given the pitching profiles Philadelphia is seeking to add.
But according to Jeff Passan of ESPN, Moore reportedly committed to a one-year, $9 million contract with the Los Angeles Angels, so a reunion with him is no longer on the cards.
The 34-year-old, who also signed with the Angels during the previous offseason, excelled in his 41 outings, recording an ERA of 2.66.
He was placed on waivers as part of their payroll dump, though, as soon as it became apparent they were out of the running for the playoffs.
Moore was claimed by the Cleveland Guardians, who then placed him on waivers, and the Miami Marlins picked him up after five games.
After spending 2020 with the Fukuoka SoftBank Hawks of Nippon Professional Baseball in Japan, the southpaw signed with the Phillies prior to the 2021 season as his first Major League squad.
