Kevin Stefanski arrested for drunk driving
As one of the few female coaches in the NFL, Callie Brownson is in a unique position. Her blood alcohol content was double the legal limit when she was caught for driving under the influence last month.
On May 27, Callie Brownson was stopped near Brunswick, Ohio, for exceeding the posted speed limit of 35 mph. Brownson’s blood alcohol content was measured by the Brunswick, Ohio police department at.215, although Ohio’s legal limit is.08. Brownson might have jeopardized her chances of staying with the Browns.
As Callie Brownson prepares to begin her second season with the Cleveland Browns, the team may take disciplinary action. The Chief of Staff of the Cleveland Browns was sentenced to attend a three-day intervention course but was spared jail time after her arrest. Callie Brownson has to pay fines and has her license suspended.
We are deeply saddened that a member of our organization put themselves in such a precarious situation and are aware of the occurrence. The Cleveland Browns declared, “We take this problem extremely seriously and will take the required disciplinary procedures.”
Why is it critical that Callie Brownson face disciplinary action from the NFL?
The NFL now has the chance to put an end to this issue immediately since Callie Brownson made an error at the wrong time. It is not appropriate to drive after intoxication and should not be tolerated.
According to NFL policy, a player who is caught for DUI faces a one-game ban and forfeits their game check. The previous NFL rules called for a two-game fine with no suspension. In this case, the NFL might want to use both the new and the old rules to send a message to coaches and players about driving under the influence.
Callie Brownson could face a three-game suspension and a fine from Roger Goodell. Although Brownson may seem harshly disciplined, the NFL may take a hard line with him in the future to make a message with other coaches and players.
