NEWS FLASH: Alabama Governor Kelen Deboer announced his resignation due to…
Los Angeles: Starting quarterback Jalen Milroe said on Thursday that former Alabama offensive coordinator Bill O’Brien had previously advised him against playing quarterback. Milroe will lead Alabama against Michigan in the College Football Playoff quarterfinal in a matter of days.
“If I told you that you’re horrible, how would you feel?” Milroe discussed his encounter with his former coordinator making the comment. “Look at where I am now and all the positions that he recommended I pursue.” “The last laugh goes to who?”
Tommy Rees took over the position this past offseason when O’Brien, who had held it for the previous two seasons, resigned to pursue a position as offensive coordinator with the NFL’s New England Patriots.
Under offensive coordinator Tommy Rees, Alabama quarterback Jalen Milroe has thrived as a passer and runner after having setbacks early in the season. He has completed passes for 2,718 yards and 23 touchdowns in addition to running for 468 yards and 12 more scores.Sportswire/Icon/Jason Vest
Rees, a former college quarterback, has helped Milroe develop into one of the league’s top quarterbacks. Milroe recovered after going through setbacks in the early half of the season, which included being benched against South Florida.
With time, he found his rhythm as a passer and runner, rushing for 468 yards and 12 more touchdowns and throwing for 2,718 yards and 23 more. These efforts helped the Alabama football team win 10 straight games, the SEC championship, and a trip to the College Football Playoffs.
“Looking at me, you don’t think I play quarterback,” Milroe remarked. You believe that I am a tight end, defensive back, and linebacker. You don’t believe that I am a quarterback.
When it comes to his throwing ability, Milroe gets great satisfaction from dispelling myths and demonstrating that he is not just a powerful runner but also a skilled thrower. Milroe has become more confident in his ability to perform the job, despite criticism from individuals such as O’Brien.
When I went to camp growing up, they saw me as a receiver or not as a quarterback, according to Milroe. I try to play quarterback as much as I can since it’s how I get past all of the challenges.
After committing to Alabama, Milroe said he never wavered in his ambition and enthusiasm to be an SEC quarterback, even though he was aware of the unique nature of his road to the position. Now that Milroe has established a relationship with Rees—a quarterback who has gone through his own highs and lows—the two are able to converse.
“I’ve never had an OC perform the role before,” Milroe remarked. “I believe that because he was a standout athlete at Notre Dame, I’m especially amenable to his instruction.” I can pick up as much knowledge as I can from him now that he is coaching the role. So far, everything is going smoothly.
Rees said of Milroe, “He’s a pretty outstanding young man.” How he perseveres in the face of hardship and gets past obstacles.
This season, the Alabama offense has come together in support of Milroe, recognizing his growth as a leader.
Wide receiver Isaiah Bond stated, “To be honest, he’s looked like two different players from the first game to all the way up to now, but it’s the same person.” On the football field, confidence is crucial. You won’t even be able to perform to the best of your abilities if you lack self-assurance and belief. Consequently, the most important thing, which he has done, is to have faith in oneself.
