It had been more than 25 years since McLaren Racing last claimed the Constructors Championship in F1. In many respects, the 2024 season echoed the late ’90s, as two of the sport’s most successful teams battled for glory in the season’s final race. Much like in 1998, McLaren managed to fend off Scuderia Ferrari, but this time it was Lando Norris who delivered the team’s fourth victory of the season.
Understandably, McLaren Racing CEO Zak Brown was thrilled with the result. The 53-year-old motorsports executive wrote a heartfelt letter to the team’s fans following their historic victory at the Yas Marina Circuit in Abu Dhabi.

After years of challenges, McLaren’s F1 resurgence culminated in a historic achievement. With high stakes for McLaren going into the 24th race of the season, Lando Norris had a chance to make history. No driver had won for McLaren since Mika Häkkinen in the late ’90s, but the determined 25-year-old F1 star seized the opportunity. After starting on pole in Abu Dhabi, Norris dominated the race, finishing first ahead of Scuderia Ferrari’s Carlos Sainz in the capital of the United Arab Emirates.
