According to TMZ, the 53-year-old was placed under arrest on Saturday night; a bond hearing is scheduled for later. Charges of DUI have been brought against Mahomes Sr. previously as well.
He was previously jailed for 40 days in 2019 after being arrested for DUI. He did, however, fulfill the terms of his sentence by serving this time on weekends.
Given that his son is about to play in the Super Bowl against the San Francisco 49ers, the timing of this most recent arrest could not be more problematic. In one of the biggest sporting events of the year, the younger Mahomes, a rising star in the NFL, is ready to guide his team.
Taylor Swift in the same suite
Mahomes Sr. has gained notoriety lately for purposes unrelated to his son’s football exploits. A few weeks prior, he gained notoriety for making light of Taylor Swift’s remark that he wouldn’t sit next to her at the AFC Conference Championship game.
“I hope not,” he teased when asked if he and Swift would share a suit with Evan Roberts of WFAN Sports Radio.
“No, I don’t believe that. Normally, Patrick and Travis each have their own agendas.
“And I assume Taylor has enough money to get whichever room she wants if she wants to have her own.”
