Sad News About Rookie QB Reached by Lions Before Training Camp..
Hendon Hooker is a rookie quarterback, so the Detroit Lions will probably have to wait a little while longer to see what they have.
This week, the third-round selection talked candidly about his healing from an ACL tear that ended his last season at Tennessee, acknowledging that he still has some distance to go before fully recovering. Although Hooker’s remarks appeared to rule out him taking part in the team’s impending training camp, they did not rule out the possibility that he would be prepared for action later in the season.
Lions QB Still Has ‘Months’ Left
Hooker stated he had been working hard on his rehabilitation but did not anticipate returning for a few months in an interview with the SEC Network that was posted online by On3.
“At the moment, I’m seven months away, essentially just accumulating days,” Hooker stated. “I just returned from working with my rehab team, MOTUS, and Jordan Palmer in L.A. They’re focusing a lot on the details to support my body in becoming a stronger, better version of herself.
Palmer has developed into one of the best quarterback coaches in the game, having worked with several elite quarterbacks and garnering recognition for his work with Josh Allen of the Buffalo Bills. Hooker may be making progress in his rehabilitation and concentrating on improving his skills, but he made the suggestion that it would take him much of the season to be ready to play to his full potential.
In his interview this week, Hooker hinted that he would need at least two more months to heal from his ruptured ACL before he was ready to return to the field. Hooker sustained his injury in November.
According to Hooker, “it’s usually nine to ten months, depending on the degree of injury and the procedure.” “Every day is better for me now. I get excited every time I get to go outside and move about, throw the ball, or run. I am limited to what I can do quickly.
As observed by SB Nation’s Pride of Detroit’s Jeremy Reisman, Hooker won’t be receiving treatment in isolation. Lions cornerback Emmanuel Moseley has been working closely with his former high school teammate while he recovers from his own ACL injury.
Hooker remarked, “Emmanuel has been a mentor to me since I was a student in high school.” “During my first year of high school, I recall him taking me on a tour of the campus during the open house. Since he’s in Detroit and we’re both recovering from injuries, we’re essentially feeding off of each other.
Insiders Think Hendon Hooker Has a Lot of Potential
In an effort to temper expectations for Hooker’s debut season, Lions head coach Dan Campbell stated that he would experience a “red shirt” year while concentrating on his rehabilitation.
Even though Hooker might not see much, if any, action this season, he might have a promising future. The rookie has “legitimate” potential to start for the NFL, according to an NFL executive who spoke with Matt Lombardo of Heavy Sports.
