Raiders approve the signing of renowned, experienced running back
According to Jordan Schulz of Bleacher Report, the Raiders have agreed to a deal with Alexander Mattison, a former running back for the Minnesota Vikings. The 25-year-old led Minnesota in rushes the previous season.
Before Mattison was given the opportunity to take the lead back in 2023, he was Dalvin Cook’s backup for a number of years. He gained 700 yards on 180 carries, but the Vikings decided to dismiss him at the end of the season because he was unable to find the end zone.
With Josh Jacobs departing for Green Bay, the Raiders need assistance in the backfield. Zamir White is the best internal candidate and will undoubtedly be given consideration, although Mattison may work as a committee member or, if he makes an impression, take the position directly.
The Seattle Seahawks are interested in the free agency pass rusher, according to Josina Anderson of CBS Sports. Part of the reason for the intrigue may be that Gregory and Aden Durde, the defensive coordinator for the Seattle Seahawks, were previously the defensive line coach in Dallas.
Though it’s early, Seattle’s involvement makes sense considering Durde’s prior background. The Seahawks, who have already lost a number of well-known players this offseason, may potentially use some defensive reinforcements.
The Denver Broncos signed Gregory for the 2023 season, but he was dismissed as the team sought to save salary and acquire younger players. After making an impression on the 49ers, he was added to their defensive line rotation and amassed 2.5 sacks in five games played.
According to Mike McCartney, Dobbs’ agent, the player will sign a one-year contract with the San Francisco 49ers on Monday. Dobbs will now have an opportunity to become the team’s backup quarterback thanks to the agreement.
Brandon Allen, another 49er, will be Dobbs’ main rival for the position. Brock Purdy is the team’s established starter.
The previous season, Dobbs started for the Arizona Cardinals as Kyler Murray was still healing from a knee injury. Dobbs was traded to the Minnesota Vikings upon Murray’s return, where he rose to fame as Kirk Cousins’ successor. There were rumors at the time that he was positioning himself for a large free agent contract, but before the season was out, his play declined and he was benched.
Last season, the 29-year-old quarterback completed 2,464 yards of passing with 13 touchdowns and 10 interceptions. Together with those totals, he gained 6 running touchdowns and an additional 421 rushing yards.
