Goff now ranks second in the NFL in terms of average yearly value, earning less than Joe Burrow.

Jared Goff contract details: Lions ink QB to largest deal in franchise history | Sporting News

According to two people involved with the negotiations, the team and the quarterback reached a four-year, $212 million contract agreement, as reported by Dave Birkett of the Detroit Free Press and USA TODAY Network. The individuals discussed the financial aspects of the agreement, which was not yet formal, under the condition of anonymity because they were not permitted to do so. In addition, $170 million is guaranteed by the agreement.

Lions, Jared Goff Agree To Extension

Goff now ranks second in the NFL in terms of average yearly value, earning less than Joe Burrow, the quarterback for the Cincinnati Bengals, who inked a $275 million, five-year contract deal in September.

Goff, 29, assisted in leading the Lions to their first division crown in thirty years and their first postseason triumph since 1992 in 2023. At a career-high 67.3% completion percentage, he completed 4,575 yards of passing for 30 touchdowns and 12 interceptions.

The agreement highlights Goff’s professional rebirth in Detroit. The signal-caller and head coach Sean McVay helped bring in a new era of football in Los Angeles as the first overall selection in the 2016 NFL draft. After helping the Rams win Super Bowl 53, he was awarded a four-year contract extension with a then-record $110 million guaranteed.

To help elevate the squad in its title defense, however, the Rams traded Goff to the Detroit Lions in January 2021 as part of a package to acquire quarterback Matthew Stafford. Stafford led Los Angeles to victory in Super Bowl 56 the following season. With Goff starting at quarterback and Dan Campbell coaching, the Lions, on the other hand, struggled to a 3-13-1 record in their inaugural campaign.

However, following a 2022 season in which Goff was selected to his third Pro Bowl and Detroit just missed the postseason, the Lions experienced a breakthrough season last year, with a 12-5 record that was their best since 1991. The club defeated the Tampa Bay Buccaneers in the divisional round and Stafford and the Rams in the wild-card round, with Goff leading the way. However, the Lions failed to advance to the Super Bowl when they blew a 17-point lead against the San Francisco 49ers in the NFC championship game.

In April, Goff told Birkett, “It’s been amazing, man.” “I would love to stay here for a very long time since I adore it here. As I have stated, it has been very remarkable to perform for these supporters and be able to create a winning culture over the past year and a half. It has been enjoyable to watch them go through that and to be a part of it, but we are in no way content with where we are or any of it. It now concerns what comes next.”

Detroit Lions quarterback Jared Goff celebrates 20-6 win over Atlanta Falcons at Ford Field in Detroit on Sunday, Sept. 24, 2023.

With a four-year, $120 million contract in April, the Lions made Amon-Ra St. Brown the highest-paid wide receiver in the NFL at the time. A.J. Brown of the Philadelphia Eagles later broke the record when he signed a three-year, $92 million contract.

Additionally, Penei Sewell, an All-Pro right tackle, received a four-year, $112 million contract deal with Detroit, making him the highest-paid offensive tackle in the NFL.
