Cam Heyward of the Steelers gave an emotional speech following his Walter Payton Award win.
Cam Heyward, the defensive captain of the Pittsburgh Steelers, is a six-time nominee for the NFL Walter Payton Man of the Year award. He won on his sixth nomination, bringing everyone to tears as he thanked people in his immediate vicinity on stage.
Heyward has always devoted his artistic endeavors to honoring his deceased father and his extended family. He then began to thank everyone in his immediate vicinity and others who were gazing down after expressing gratitude to the Steelers organization and head coach Mike Tomlin.
“I’ve been a Pittsburgh Steeler ever since,” Heyward remarked. “I’ve believed that my father and God have a plan for me, and I’m currently living it out.”
In 2018, Craig’s Closet, Heyward’s foundation, was established in memory of his father.Since then, he’s increased his reach by organizing occasions like Cam’s Kindness Week and supporting the group’s Social Justice Fund.
Heyward remarked, “My dad was so much more than just a football player, obviously.” “My father possessed an exuberant disposition. His task was to motivate others. putting his family first. He had an impact on the community, and I thought it was my duty to pick up the pieces after his death.
Not a day goes by that I don’t think about my dad, but working through the issues is therapeutic. I can practice being close to my dad in addition to exercising giving back.”
He went on to express his gratitude to his mother, who took over after his father died before he finished high school.
Heyward stated, “My mom comes up when I talk about my family.” “Only one person stood up for my family after my dad died away, and she stood up as our pillar of support. I can’t do everything, but I can give back when I play football. She takes up our foundation’s slack. Nobody in Pittsburgh is unaware of her identity, and for good cause.”
