The Cincinnati Bengals plan to replace Joe Mixon’s production with a mix of veteran Zack Moss and second-year speedster Chase Brown, utilizing a thunder-and-lightning approach.
Mixon carried the workload for most of the past seven seasons, including 257 carries for 1,034 yards and nine touchdowns in 2023. Moss, who signed a two-year contract with the Bengals this offseason, had his most productive season last year in Indianapolis. He rushed 183 times for 794 yards and five touchdowns in eight starts when Jonathan Taylor was injured.
“I think it is big shoes to fill,” Moss said about replacing Mixon in Cincinnati, via the Dayton Daily News. “But my job is to go out there and perform at a high level and be as consistent as I can be.”
Moss expects to share duties with Brown, who displayed dynamic speed in his rookie season and profiles as a pass-catching back capable of big plays.
“We’re definitely two different types of backs,” Moss said. “He’s crazy fast, which keeps the defense on its heels. Having fresh legs throughout the season is crucial, and I’m looking forward to building chemistry with him.”
Moss is accustomed to splitting time, as he did in Indianapolis with Taylor. He believes the league trend favors multiple running backs sharing the workload, and he’s excited to see Brown develop and contribute. Moss plans to bring his experience from Indianapolis to Cincinnati, hoping to enhance the team’s backfield consistency and big-play potential.
The combination of Moss and Brown could provide more stability and explosive plays for the Bengals’ backfield than in recent seasons with Mixon.
