After six years together, Novak Djokovic revealed on social media on Wednesday that he and coach Goran Ivanisevic have parted ways.
“I can still clearly recall the day I extended an invitation to Goran to join my team. In 2018, Marian and I wanted to experiment and add some serve magic to our partnership,” Djokovic posted on Instagram. In actuality, we not only brought serve to the table but also a ton of smiles, a great year-end rating, record-breaking feats, and 12 more Grand Slams (as well as a few finals) to the tally since then. Did I also mention a little drama? 🎢😊 #Nolefam would be aware 🤫
Marian Vajda and Ivanisevic collaborated from 2018 to 2022. Djokovic named Ivanisevic, who is currently inducted into the International Tennis Hall of Fame, as his head coach in March 2022 after Vajda was fired.
According to the PIF ATP Rankings, the top player said he made the choice with Ivanisevic “a few days ago.”
Although there were ups and downs in our on-court chemistry, Djokovic writes that their friendship was always firmly rooted. Not sure if he is pleased of this, but in addition to winning tournaments together, we also had a long-running side conflict in Parchisi. And for us, the competition never ends.
“Thank you so much, my friend Šefinjo. I adore you.
After losing to Jannik Sinner in the Australian Open semifinals and unexpectedly losing to Luciano Nardi in the BNP Paribas Open third round, Djokovic is 8-3 this season.
Ivanisevic was one of the largest servers in the world while he was a player, reaching as high as World No. 2. The Croatian made it to the 2001 Wimbledon final as a wild card and won 22 tour-level singles titles.
