Carlos Alcaraz has withdrawn from the Monte Carlo Masters for the second consecutive year, citing an injury to his right arm. The Spanish player had arrived in Monte Carlo last week with hopes of participating in the tournament for only the second time in his career. However, reports surfaced about an injury after Alcaraz was seen practicing with strapping on his right arm. Confirming these concerns, world No. 3 released a statement on social media, expressing disappointment: “I have been working in Monte Carlo and trying to recover until the last minute from an injured pronator teres in my right arm, but it was not possible and I cannot play! I was really looking forward to playing. See you next year!”
This injury follows closely on the heels of a sprained ankle Alcaraz suffered in Rio de Janeiro just seven weeks ago. Despite confirming that he no longer felt pain in his ankle when speaking to the press in Monte Carlo, Alcaraz’s right arm injury has forced him to withdraw from the tournament. His scheduled match against Felix Auger-Aliassime in the second round will now be taken by Italian lucky loser Lorenzo Sonego.
The news of Alcaraz’s withdrawal is particularly disappointing, given his absence from the same tournament last year due to a different injury.
