Departure: An outstanding RB leaves the Vikings for a rival team again.
With his release, Mattison can sign with a different team at any point up to the March 13 opening of free agency.
He recently finished his sixth season with the Vikings, his first in which he started at running back for the group. In 2023, Mattison started 13 out of 16 games. He gained 700 yards on 180 run attempts (3.9 yards per carry), but he did not score a touchdown on the ground. On a career-high 44 targets, he totaled 30 receptions for 192 yards and three touchdowns.
I’m grateful. Mattison, Alexander
Minnesota Vikings
After backing up Dalvin Cook from 2019 to 22 and being the first pick in line when Cook was released by the team last year, Mattison was selected in the third round (102nd overall) in 2019.
In 75 regular-season games (19 starts), he has made an appearance. He has amassed 2,370 rushing yards and 11 ground touchdowns. Through the air, Mattison recorded 100 receptions for 718 yards and six touchdowns.
Myles Gaskin, Ty Chandler, Kene Nwangwu, and DeWayne McBride are all under contract with the Vikings. Cam Akers, who was traded to Minnesota before the 2023 season, is recovering from a torn Achilles injury he sustained in Week 9 against Atlanta. He will be a restricted free agent after this season.
