Departure: As Novak Djokovic, world No. 1, announces Another Major Departure from his coaching staff
In the most recent shuffle to his squad, Novak Djokovic has said he has parted ways with longtime fitness coach Marco Panichi.
For “all the energy, effort and time” the Italian put into helping him become “the best possible player and person I can be,” the Serbian legend expressed his gratitude to Panichi.
The 36-year-old’s remarkable accomplishments are partly due to his physical toughness and fitness, since he has mostly avoided serious injuries during his career.
Former long jumper Panichi joined Djokovic’s squad in 2019 and has contributed to his incredibly successful period in his thirties. Panichi was Djokovic’s cornerstone for ten of his twenty-four Grand Slam victories.
The announcement of Panichi’s resignation coincides with Djokovic’s late-March split from longtime mentor Goran Ivanisevic.

Djokovic announced the breakup of his collaboration with Panichi in an Instagram post that honored the player.
“Grande Marco, what beautiful years we’ve shared together. We achieved success, took home honors, and shattered records,” Djokovic wrote.
Above all, though, I have relished our most “routine” training sessions, both inside and outside the gym. countless hours of “carciofini” and laughter that really inspired me to get ready for success.
“Thank you, Romanista, as Goran refers to you, for all of your time, effort, and enthusiasm in helping me become the greatest player and person I can be. Love you so much, and I’ll see you in Roma soon. Thank you very much.
In a lesson in December at the Oltrepò Tennis Academy in Codevilla, Panichi provided insight into Djokovic’s physical prowess.
“Nole is a phenomenon based on genetics. One who is both simple and reliable in whatever they do and who can perform tasks that others are unable to perform. He clarified that it couldn’t always be replicated, according to Italy24.press.
Because he is aware of his physical limitations, he possesses the experience necessary to interpret the signals coming from his body. We assist him by providing the tools he needs to enhance these natural talents.
“Nole is a tough opponent; he expects a lot of himself, and everyone around him have to adjust to these demands. And to his motivation, which is constantly extremely high and never wanes.”
After parting ways with chief of staff Edoardo Artaldi, his agent, in November, Djokovic said he was “entering a new chapter about the off-court approach.”
Artaldi, who went as “Dodi” among the Djokovic crew, had been managing Djokovic ever since the 2008 Australian Open, when he won his first Grand Slam championship. The 24-time major champion’s massive operation is managed by the Italian and his partner Elena Cappellaro.
“We choose to follow different paths professionally, but we remain friends. I’m going to start a fresh chapter on the off-court strategy. Amidst Artaldi’s resignation at the 2023 Paris Masters, Djokovic said, “The transition is not easy but I’m moving forward.”
