Carlos Alcaraz Forced forced to withdraw from the 2024 Italian Open In Rome
Alcaraz participated in the Madrid Open, but during his time in the Spanish city, he wore a protective sleeve. The 20-year-old eventually faced an inspired Andrei Rublev, who defeated him in three sets despite his early inspired play.
The two-time major winner acknowledged before the match that he had not yet decided whether to compete in Rome, although he was upbeat following his defeat in Madrid.
Alcaraz couldn’t participate in Rome, though, because of muscular edema in his pronator teres, as shown by tests he had after losing in the Spanish capital.
“After playing in Madrid, I experienced arm soreness. I had some testing done today, and as a result of my most recent injury, I have muscle edema in my pronator teres. Regretfully, I will not be able to perform in Rome. In order to heal and be pain-free to play at my best, I need to sleep.”
Of course, the young player’s objective is to compete in the French Open, followed shortly by the Wimbledon Championships and the Olympics.
He decided to withdraw from the Italian Open in order to safeguard his body, but it is concerning that he had to pull out of three clay-court events in a single season.
Now that he will be defending a lot of points throughout the summer, the Spaniard will be trying to maintain his health in the upcoming months.
